🏰 Beavers Take Over Helmsley Castle!

A Day of Discovery, Adventure, and Knightly Fun

On a bright and breezy Saturday, Beavers from across the district descended on the historic grounds of Helmsley Castle for a day packed with medieval magic, hands-on learning, and high-energy fun. From becoming knights for the day to solving compass-based treasure hunts, it was an unforgettable experience for our youngest Scouts.

🏹 Rotating Adventures in a Historic Setting
After arriving and gathering for a warm welcome in the shadow of the castle’s grand ruins, the Beavers were split into four mixed groups, encouraging new friendships and team spirit across the district. Each group rotated through a series of exciting activities, ensuring every child had the chance to experience all the fun.

⚔️ Archery, Knight School, and Compass Quests
The day’s activities included:
* Archery: A chance to develop focus and coordination while learning the basics of this ancient skill.
* Knight School: Beavers discovered what it meant to be a knight, learned a knightly dance, and explored medieval customs.
* Crafting Tabards: Each child designed and decorated their own tabard — colourful, creative, and worn proudly throughout the day.
* Compass Treasure Hunt: Working in teams, the Beavers used compasses to complete a treasure trail around the castle, combining navigation with problem-solving.

Every rotation brought new skills, laughter, and shared memories.

🙌 A Castle Full of Thanks
A huge thank you goes to Angela and the team at Helmsley Castle for their warm hospitality and support throughout the day. Events like this couldn’t happen without the dedication of our volunteer leaders, young leaders, and parents, all of whom helped ensure the day ran smoothly and safely.

💬 Building Memories, One Adventure at a Time
This event was a shining example of what Scouting offers: fun, learning, adventure, and community. The Beavers left not only with stories to tell and crafts to keep, but also with stronger friendships and a deeper connection to the world around them.

Helmsley Castle may be centuries old, but for one day, it belonged to a new generation of curious, courageous, and creative young adventurers.
